Anyways, in 2012, I started this 100 baby challenge the first time. I was happily making my way through the kids, getting them married, dealing with the impending doom that my oldest kids were getting closer to dying (one of Roxanne's kids lost her husband so we had a funeral, which was interesting since I gave him a young again potion the night before, so that was going to lead to a meta thing about how characters don't play the way we expect), when disaster struck in October of 2013. I opened my Sims game to find EVERYTHING. EVERY. THING. The file, the screenshots, was gone. I was 33% of the way done, and had just planned an epic end to it all. So I mourned for a while. But since I'm a storyteller, this means that I had a job to do: so I started over. (But I'm doing it much smarter this time. I'm backing things up!)
I got a chance to explore Roxanne's background before she became my baby-makin' momma and matriarch of a clan well over a hundred by the time I will be all done. Sadly, because I'm a lengthy storyteller, this means that it took a little longer than it should have for me to start the baby-makin' ball a rollin.
Why a Hundred Baby Challenge? Because I like making sim-babies? Like, that's what I do with my Sims. I get them married, they have babies...and then the babies turn into teenagers...and then I stop playing because I get emotionally attached to pixels and data and I don't want them to die. So I have yet to lose a Sim to old age (naturally. I also play the game with longer lifespans).
Want some fun facts about the author? I have this ability to remember movie quotes, even if I've only seen a movie once. I'm more likely to remember more lines from a movie I'm engaged in, but I'm bound to remember at least one quote from every movie I see. They're either the funny ones or the profound ones. I love reading and writing (duh!), and I've been Simming and making Sims stories since the Sims 1 days (though those weren't good by any means. Mostly me imitating what I saw on the Sims exchange). Also, I'm very random and can go from topic to topic without warning, but in my head it all makes sense. Which means I'm a huge fan of circular conversations (where the topic naturally comes back to the first one discussed).
FAQ!
What are the rules for a 100 Baby Challenge?
Given the fact I break most of these rules, I'm dubbing this my "cheatsy" challenge. I've started a less cheaty one over at Lockwood Coven. That one also is going to be a generational challenge. With witches!
Anyway, the rules say you're supposed to earn all the simoleons yourself with a stay-at-home job like painting or writing (or have a pet hunt and sell their findings). So no careers. I kinda broke that rule. A lot. Partially because the rules I read when I first started says you play the game normally. Which for me meant abusing the crap out of the 'motherlode' cheat. Honestly, I hate having to earn money. It's too much micromanagement for me. And, for me, it gets in the way of the story. Also, Roxanne had skills prior to starting the challenge (BUT! both my cheats are justified in-story), which I don't think you're supposed to do...
Your female Sim is to carry a hundred kids, all from different fathers. Version 1 broke this rule as I tried fruitlessly to get Roxanne to give birth to a red-skinned baby (my devil baby, as I called it). So several of my kids were actually siblings instead of being half-siblings. Version 2 plays this straight.
I think that's about it. I think a lot of these rules are optional if it gets in the way of your storytelling. Which is partially why I started the Lockwood Coven challenge. It would be my less cheaty, generational challenge.
Do you play with any mods/CC?
No. Partially because the computer I play the Sims 3 on isn't actually mine, and I'm distrustful of custom content. Besides, you can pretty much make anything you want in Create-A-Sim. I guess certain outfits and hairstyles would be nice, but in all honestly, I don't want mods bugging up my game. Or my computer.
If I had my own gaming computer, I'd be more open to the idea of downloading some mods (master controller and the one that lets you have a kajillion sims in the house sound pretty fun, as well as pose player). But for now, this is all...well, not vanilla, but also, yeah vanilla.
When's the next update?!?!
I've been pretty bad about staying consistent in the past, but I figured by adding more pages like these, I'll be more committed to doing the story. I do love this story, I just need to make the time to write it. Posts will be bi-weekly on Saturdays. I say bi-weekly because the other update will be my Lockwood Coven Challenge. So if you follow both blogs, you'll get your dosage of sim-manity every week! This also gives me time to plot and write both stories, as well as play the stories in-game.
Can I download your Sims?
Maybe. I'm thinking of releasing everyone when this challenge is all done (provided the sims 3 website still exists at that point), and I'm very protective of my babies. I have a little mini challenge planned for them all once this is over, and then after that maybe I'll be more receptive to people using them in their stories.
Any other fun Sims plans?
Once I get both 100 Baby challenges completed, I might start a Random Legacy Challenge. I've read a few of them, and I want to do one of my own! But for now, that project is a gleam in my eye. Besides, I have to finish what I start before I can start a new project.
